Cybersecurity Trends of 2025

As 2026 rolls in, it is the perfect time to look back at the trends in cybercrime that shaped 2025. Year after year, we see major developments in cybersecurity, however, cyber-crime also evolves alongside this. Staying informed on these changes is an extremely important part of cyber hygiene and keeping your business safe.

Cybersecurity best practices and threats evolve in in parallel with each other. Staying up to date in a way means keeping your network off the naughty list and patching before that New Years bell rings!

Still to this day, the number one threat towards exploitation is human error resulting in phishing related breaches or attacks. The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025, published earlier this year on GOV.UK, found that: “Phishing cyber crime remained the most prevalent type of cyber crime (93% of businesses and 95% of charities that experienced a cyber crime), while other forms were less common.”  These figures show that phishing is still the preferred entry point for cybercriminals.

So how can you combat this? Awareness, training and proactive security measures are the only way to avoid this. As the saying goes, you may have a key but if it’s used incorrectly, it becomes futile. Stand-alone technology is not enough for true security. Technology alone is not enough. Employees must be equipped to recognise suspicious emails, links, and requests, and organisations must have processes in place to reduce risk and respond quickly when incidents occur.

This is where NGS comes in. We help organisations prepare their people as well as their systems. Use our SOC to cover your foes and your socks to cover your toes this winter. We offer everything from security awareness training to penetration testing to ensure your team are well-versed in the evolving threat landscape.
